PDO threads are tiny dissolvable filaments that are placed under the skin to stimulate the body’s production of collagen and elastin resulting in a tighter and smoother texture. There are some types of threads that can also add a lift to the tissue and provide contouring to the face and neck resulting in a youthful glow.
A topical or local anesthetic can be used, but most people find that they have only mild discomfort during the procedure. Pro-Nox (“laughing gas”) is available upon request. The needles used to introduce the threads are tiny. Threads are placed in the fatty layer below the skin where there is very little sensation. It’s normal to have some tenderness following the procedure but that resolves within a few days.
The threads dissolve around 6 months after they are placed, but because they stimulate the body to produce the strengthening components of the skin, the effects last significantly longer—typically 18 months. Because of the nature of these dissolvable threads, the result is a natural and doesn’t interfere with the normal movement of the face.
It depends on the type of thread used and the goal of the treatment. For improvement of texture and wrinkles, it takes about 6-10 weeks for the body’s natural collagen and elastin to build to begin to see changes. If a “lift” is the goal, the results are visible right away.
